FORENSICVERSE

FKKMK Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta uses ARUVANA's Virtual Reality (VR) solution to maximize forensic learning and training

Company: FK-KMK UGM

PRODUCT: Virtual Reality (VR)

INDUSTRY: Education

"Concerning educating students, we always try to find out how to make them competent, so with this application, it is hoped that students can gain experience, and become more competent when dealing with patients. Maybe in the future in this narrow scope, the department of Forensic Medicine and Medicolegal can add more cases. And not only in this department, but technology like this may also be applied in other fields, for example with other departments, we can combine other VR-based simulations. So later we can synergize to present a virtual hospital."

BACKGROUND

Education is constantly changing and advancing, and so is medical education. To provide competency-based learning to medical students, various technologies have been used. In recent years, Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as a new method of providing medical education and simulation.

VR will play a big role because by using virtual reality, users can access intelligent learning technology regardless of space and time.

Virtual reality (VR) is designed to trick the human senses and immerse the user into a virtual world so that the user feels, interacts, and feels like they are there. VR offers unrivaled capabilities to support and facilitate forensic learning activities.

Virtual reality-based education systems can broaden the scope of the standard curriculum and at the same time provide students with an engaging experience. In the traditional forensic education system to perform some surgical operations, we have to dissect organs practically. This will take a lot of money and time, on the other hand by using a virtual reality-based system we don’t need to dissect organs, we can do it using a three-dimensional representation.

SOLUTIONS

In collaboration with FK-KMK UGM, ARUVANA has developed an innovative product based on Virtual Reality (VR) in the field of forensic medicine, namely ForensicVerse. This product has several advantages for forensic medicine training. The immersive nature of the VR environment can facilitate the verification of procedures according to prescribed steps, reduce medical practice costs due to higher efficiency, and provide virtual experiences that can help students become more proficient.

Unlike traditional or online learning, VR places the user in an experience. Instead of looking at the screen in front of them, students are immersed and can interact with the 3D world. VR provides medical students with easy learning and hands-on training, with a virtual environment available.

Students perform simulations by entering virtual scenes to observe, perform and understand procedures in the mortuary room and understand the basics of observing corpses. Forensic training simulations with various clinical scenarios using VR technology greatly help students to gain a better understanding and make the student learning experience much more valuable.

VR promises to deliver the best aspects of real-world classrooms reconstructed into the virtual world. When used properly, this emerging technology can easily leapfrog current alternatives.
